    3MOVES air, NOT quite--Vacuum cleaner!  Jan 09, 2009
Nope. This fan isn't quite, or anywhere close, as advertised. I bought this fan because I thought it would probably run at the advertised 21Dbs, and then get louder as it sped up due to heat. But the fan seems to have no thermal control, nor does it listen to the MB. Wide open baby! Turbine Time!

If you look closely, you will see a white tape all around the outside of the fan housing, which looks like a thermal sensor. Either this thermal sensor is set somewhere between 20 - 30 degrees = JET AIR PLANE MODE, or it simply isn't working.

The problem is that the fan runs on one setting no matter what your doing, even if your system goes into power save mode, and that one settings is called JET TURBINE POWER. Very annoying, very loud, but in fairness, moves lots of air.

In summary, yep, it does move tons of air, and nope, it's not anywhere near quite. And nope, it does not throttle itself, nor will the MB throttle it. It's 100% ramming speed.

    NOISY, YES.
    MOVES TONS OF AIR, YES.

    You choose.

    5Great fan  Apr 16, 2008
Wow, sometimes you can break down the noise levels of a fan a tad too much. The fan is fine. Pushes tons of air through, just as the first priority should be with a fan. The noise isn't as bad as some may lead you to believe, especially if your system is set up correctly. Anyway, most of the time I am playing a game or listening to music while working, so a fan would have to be awfully loud to be annoying in those situations.

    1horrible  Mar 22, 2006
I bought this fan based on its noise/ cfm ratings. From what the manufacturer says, this fan would provide a nearly unprecedented noise to airflow in this price range. Well, unfortunately, the ratings are quite misleading. The 21 db this fan is rated at aren't in the standard "x db/meter" form, so they probably measured 21db from like 2 or 3 meters away. This fan is easily twice as loud as its rating would lead you to believe. I can't recommend this fan at all, and I will in fact say the following: shame on you, thermaltake, for misleading consumers for a penny.
