    1Awful Hard Drive - Stay Away  Oct 11, 2008
I bought one of these and it served me well for a year and then died. Something seems to be wrong with the motor. The worst thing is that I can not figure out how to get it repaired. There is no information or help line for the company and if you google the name you find nothing. I took it to Best Buy and other stores and they said they wont repair it. I will stay away from this product and only buy hard drives with warranty from now on. I have lost all my files.

3Bacchus (another review) says it all - I've had 2 supply failures  Feb 23, 2008
I love this very pretty drive case except for the power supply. I've had 2 drives, and 2 supply failures. MGB (the manufacturer's US importer) doesn't stock the supplies and they or their equivalent are not easily available on the web since they use a proprietary connector, so if the unit is out of warranty you are out of luck. MGB did tell me eGoodz carries them, but I didn't see them on their web site.

Update 3-29-2009. Since I originally wrote this review I replaced the units, including power supplies, with identical ones under warranty from another vendor maybe a year ago, and have had no further issues with either of the two. They run 24/7 (except for automatic spin-down for power saving reasons), so I would upgrade it up to 5 stars if that were possible. I should also mention that the open design of the side of the enclosure means that the drives run cool without need for a noisy cooling fan.

The only caveat is to check with Amazon to make sure they would also replace the unit if necessary, otherwise check other vendor's replacement policies before purchasing.

1Sturdy outside, crappy inside (or maybe just a crappy power supply)  Dec 21, 2007

I bought a USB Firewire combo Metal Gear Box: Substance 2 loaded with a Seagate 320. It lasted one month before slowly dying. First symptoms were flaky behavior, crashes, drive not recognized. Then the blue LED light started dying. Now the drive isn't recognized. After searching the web for advice I discovered several user reviews at various sites. The main complaint focusses on the power supply, which in one user's case caught fire while plugged in but not in use. I suspect my problem is also the power supply. Another "consumer treat" made in China. I'm going to try to salvage the hard drive. If it works in another unit I'll know for sure what the problem is. It was a new drive. Hopefully it'll work and if so I'll investigate to see if a better power supply will work with this unit.

It's a good sturdy case. Too bad the guts seem to be substandard.

I'd steer clear of this unit and other products by this company.

    1My computer can't see it.  Oct 17, 2007
After six month of use, my computer can't see the hard drive in this enclosure. I tried it on three different computers with the same outcome. I used a different enclosure with the same HD just to make sure it is not the HD that I am having a problem with, HD checked out ok. Also, I am using a 250GM HD in this enclose and it is a really tight fit.

5Great box but NOT Vista compatable  Oct 16, 2007
Bought a couple of these different HD enclosures only to learn that you need to read the fine print. Most are not yet Vista compatable I learned the hardway. XP found it in a heartbeat and it works great. Took less than five minutes to set it up. Stands up by itself with cool blue lights underneath.

Worked fine with both two drives I tried in it.

Decided to keep to use with my XP and sent back the AZIO one as it was not as sturdy or as quick to be recognized on the XP machine I was using.
