    5Works very well  Feb 27, 2009
I bought this cooler for a 775 socket Pentium D 3.2 GHz processor, which tends to run really hot. The installation required a bracket behind the board, but was nice and solid. Temperatures are running well below the limit and the fan is remarkably quiet.

    4Works great. A bit loud  Jul 27, 2007
I like this cooler/fan because it has screw on attachment rather than thos plastic pins you have to turn. This makes for a strong connection to the CPU and motherboard. Don't screw to tight, though- you don't want to crack it. It comes with a bit of thermal paste on the bottom of the fan (be careful not to touch it). I installed it on a Pentium D 805 2.66 MHz CPU. Those are the Core Duos, not the newer Core 2 Duos that run cooler by design. My idle CPU temp is about 41 degrees Celsius. I've used it to do some video editing/encoding in Sony Vegas. I think it went up to 53 degrees or at the most 57.
This cooler is a bit loud. That type of thing doesn't bother me. Because it is a four pin fan, my motherboard's sensor can control it. For example, it can shut the fan down if it stays below a certain temperature. In my mobo's BIOS I changed the setting to shut the fan off after 4 minutes into the OS startup. That worked for only 2 restart cycles. Now it stays on for a bit longer. However, I'm chalking that problem up to the operating system (Windows XP) and/or the motherboard (MSI 945 Platinum).
