Defective Laptop Oct 23, 2009 This machine contains a defective GPU (nvidia 8400M GS, 8600Mg GS)that will Die out on you after your 1 year manufacture warranty runs out.
Even if you have an active warranty and you send it in for repairs they will replace the broken part with the same defective part that will once again die.
They extended the warranty on all DV9000 series laptops up to the dv9400 series the dv9500 and up will not have an extended warranty for the defect.
If I could give a 0 out of 5 I would.

DO NOT BUY THIS NOTEBOOK! Sep 27, 2009 You purchase this laptop at risk, there is a lawsuit against NVidia for faulty graphics card - Try to purchase a replacement GeForce 8600M graphics, unavailable! In addition - HP used cheap solder on the motherboard which causes components to crash between 1 month to over just 2 years! See the attached link, there are over 77 pages of problems with the pavilion DV9500 laptop and HP'S customer service! Best yet, even if HP's fixed the laptop while in warranty - the problems will happen again within months! And if you're out of warranty, you're out of luck!

This series is frought with problems Aug 06, 2009 I have had this series of DV9000 with the same features since March '07. Just 3 months after the initial 2 year warranty period ([...]) the optical drive failed. Also, HP recalled my computer due to a display hinge problem, which I had to send to them for repair for 2 weeks. Just one month after I received my repaired computer, the motherboard fried. One minute it was working, the next minute it was blank and unresponsive. HP wants another $[...] for this- clearly not worth the money to fix it. If you don't mind spending over a thousand dollars on a 2 year old "disposable" electronic device, than go for it. I have NEVER traveled with this laptop. The furthest is has moved is upstairs and downstairs in my home, yet it had multiple issues and a catastrophic failure just after 2 years. My computer technicians said that the series is frought with problems, and recommended not fixing it (contrary to their business interest in fixing it). Many of the computers in the DV9000 line were recalled due to a motherboard failure- though mine is "not one of them" according to HP. Dealing with HP is a NIGHTMARE as well. They make a lot of promises with ZERO follow through. Their customer service is reprehensible.
If you DO decide to buy an HP- use your Amex card. American Express adds an additional year beyond the manufacturer warranty to any electronic device you purchase via their card. I have been pleasantly surprised that they have been handling this PC issue wonderfully, and have promised to either repair or replace it. I will not be replacing it with another HP- of any kind or series.
Lack of Lasting Quality Jun 24, 2009 First, notice that the HP website advertises an HD DVD drive but this computer does not have one. This is a misprint on HP's behalf because they have a customizable version of this computer available although this version is not customizable.
This is not why I give this computer 1 star however. Within a year and a half, I have been through a hard drive failure, graphics card failure and a motherboard failure. This computer has no lasting quality. I like many others spent a lot of money to get a reasonable computer for the price only to end up with added bills as parts break.
If you get this computer, get the warranty for at least 3 years. The features might be good, but the quality of the parts aren't.

HP Compiuter and HP customewr support May 23, 2009 one of the big serious problems that HP dose is make comptuer broken and sell it. I got 2 of them and 2 of them designs are bad. The manifactor is in China for cheap labor. Talk about cheap. the design is bad. I got a DV900z and a DV7 and both computers are dead. and with a dead OS Windows Vista. So far the service fights consumers, Dose not provide customer service. I will not order any HP Computer. I went head and got a new one from some one else. Due to disgusting bad service on HP. HP make. I sent my dead HP computer for service many many times then HP Sold my notebook computer to some one else in order for me to go back there to buy one other. well they sent me a DV7 a dead computer that is a lemon. Not in the market any more. So tell me Should I long on line and buy a HP when I can buy any other brand name that dose not have Vista on it.
this treview is on the service of HP and the bad design flaws. if it dose not work is more the reasion to sell it. I cannot sell my dead computer becuase its broken. I have no warrenty service. Wy put a warenty just to waste me time and money?
