    5Great computer  Apr 12, 2009
I was planning to buy this notebook from Costco but they removed it from their product list together with HP. So I have found it here at Amazon.com with Elecsurf Computers. I ordered it and it arrived on time. In fact, it was above the specifications announced in the order because it came with Infinity display and with high capacity 6-cell battery. I checked the price of similarly equipped notebook at Costco.com and found that my notebook would cost about $200.00 more if I bought it there. So far it runs good. It is Linux friendly, has great WiFi sensitivity with Intel 5100 AGN chipset: can see more Wifi networks than other notebooks with Broadcom chips. nVidia graphics boad provides hardware support for playing HD video. I'm pleased with this notebook.

    5Great computer at a resonable price  Oct 20, 2007
I purchased this computer as a desktop replacement and have had it for about two weeks. So far, it has exceeded all of my expectations.

One item to note with this computer is the necessity to remove a great deal of junk software that ships with it. Once that is done, initial start up times increase by about 75%.

PROS: Amazing screen, fast graphics, superb keyboard, lots of ports, built-in webcam, fingerprint reader, etc.

CONS: One major one (at least for me) is that the audio out ports are both located on the front of the unit. It makes it a little more difficult to actually use the machine on my lap with my favorite Bose headphones hooked up....but it is a minor thing in an otherwise wonderful machine.

    4Good Baseline Notebook  Jan 08, 2007
It's lightweight, and depending on what you configure with can be fast and powerful. The AC Adapter doesn't heat up too quickly like previous AC Adapters in the past. I currently own a V3000Z although with different specs, still somewhat close. If you are looking for something affordable, than this can help you with that.

As a writer, I need a lightweight notebook for traveling to make sure I maintain a constant flow of work. While I was writing I noticed something. After twenty to thirty minutes of use in a room around 72F, the notebook has substantially heated up due to the lack of fans. The graphics card core temperature rose to 71C (That's 159.8F for us westerners). The graphics card tends to heat up the fastest on this notebook. That's the biggest problem with this laptop that I find so far. To solve that it's good to buy an accessory found at HP's website called a chill mat, it should alleviate some of that trouble.

Other than that I find this notebook useful to what I need. I'd recommend this for an affordable college present as after rebates, can be relatively cheap, my final price would be around $450. I'd also recommend getting an extended warranty should something fail as a year can go by and I'm hoping that this mistake won't come back to haunt me.
