2Coolmax leaves a lot to be desired  Feb 25, 2009
I've had experience with Coolmax over the years. I build computers for a living and as a hobby. These power supplies are sub-standard and generally last until the warranty runs out. The efficiency ratio is poor.
The last PS I had from Coolmax not only failed 2 weeks after the warranty had expired but it also fried my motherboard and all the memory. Fortunately, AMD CPUs seem impervious to power spikes and my Opteron 185 sailed though. I wound up getting a Corsair PSU - which I highly recommend.

    5Thank You  Dec 31, 2007
Excellent. Large intake fan at the bottom of power supply also enhanced heat removal in my Tower Case. Took me a second to figure out that "HAL" on the switch in the back stood for High, Auto, or Low speed of the fan. I don't believe it was mentioned in the literature.

5A Good Power Supply Prevents Phantom Problems  Oct 03, 2007
An overloaded power supply creates strange intermittent problems, which may lead you to replace perfectly good components. Crashes, Blue Screens of Death, "bad" data CDs or DVDs - all of these can result from using an overloaded power supply. Don't be fooled by high ratings on a cheaply made supply either. This Coolmax is a legitimate 600 Watts, with 2 separate 12V busses, a 3 speed fan control. It's also heavy, a good 5 pounds out of the box, with big heavy guage wires, and you can see the case has big heat sinks inside. We've all probably gotten an inferior power supply with a cheap case, or barebone setup. They say 400 or more watts, but there is little visible inside and it seems to weigh less than a paper clip. My Coolmax is running an SLI setup with high demands for current and it handles the job perfectly. I suspect it will stick around through several upgrades over many years. Sure, you can spend more for lights, a fancy paint job or artwork on the fan grilles but if you want every dollar you pay to be returned in performance and reliability, this is the one you want.
