Good for about a year ... Jan 08, 2009 I bought this when I bought a new computer system so I could easily access the hard drive from the old computer. Once I figured out the correct jumper setting for the drive (set the drive for "Cable Select"), it worked fine for about a year. Now, it powers up, the drive spins up, and the computer will recognize it as a USB device, but it can't access the drive at all. No data, no volume information, nothing. I installed the drive into a PC, and the drive works fine, so the problem is clearly this enclosure.
good quality enclosure Aug 31, 2008 installation wasnt difficult i got up and running within 10minutes..it keeps the drive cool inside since it is aluminum so no problems so far with this
Not Perfect But Okay Aug 23, 2008 First of all, very nice looking enclosure. It seems well enough made, though in my experience you never know if one of these things is going to kill a drive until you've had it over six months.
A couple of problems, the instructions are poor and the thing gets pretty hot. The instructions are all just pictures so they don't have to change them for the various different languages. Most of it's pretty self-explanatory and the pictures are fine, so not a big deal. The exception is hooking up the wire for the LED on the front. It has instructions on the metal part you mount the hard drive to, but they're incorrect. It's impossible to orient it as the picture shows, with the red and white wires in the position shown. In case you run into this, the smooth side on the connector faces up. The heat is really an issue of this thing not having a sleep mode. The drive will continue to run as long as the power switch is on. This is not desirable as it keeps the drive moving when unnecessary and wastes both power and the motor on the heads. Even my cheapo, no-name external hard drive spins down after inactivity.
Aside from those complaints, it's a pretty nice product.
Garbage, lasted 3 months Jun 24, 2008 I bought this to replace an HD enclosure that failed for my mother-in-law. It lasted less than 3 months. Can't say I'm completely surprised, for $25 you get what you pay for.
Spend $50 and get a better quality enclosure, Antec's are nice.
Power Supply Died Jun 17, 2008 This unit worked fine for about three weeks and then the brick power supply died. I see other reviews with the "dieing" issue.I am attempting to get it replaced now...
Just an fyi.....
